Women's Worlds: Team Update
Priscilla Ribic
As many of you get ready for Memorial Day weekend in May, a team of 10 women and full coaching staff will be headed to Ylitornio Finland (population approx 5400) to represent the United States at the 26th IPF Women's World Championships. Where is Ylitornio you may ask? It is a 1.5hr plane flight north from Helsinki followed by a 1.5 bus ride from Rovaniemi to the meet venue. It will take many of us 15-17hrs to arrive to our destination as we cross 10 times zones! Ylitornio is located in the Finnish Lapland's we will experience the Midnight Sun,' with extended daylight hours, so our team members from Alaska will feel pretty much at home, while the rest of us, well, we'll see how well we can sleep in daylight.
Several of us are planning a little detour before competing to the 'Santa Claus Village' located n Rovaniemi to across the Artic Circle and take in a little bit of Finland culture prior to arriving at the venue.
Our team is made up of interesting demographics this year. From our youngest member, Caitlin Miller only 14 years of age, to our oldest (and most animated on the platform) member, Harriet Hall at 56 years young! The rest of us fall in the middle of the spectrum. Of our team, we have many veterans at the IPF World level from Sub-jr, Junior, Open & Masters medallists, World Champions and World Record holders. Joining the US World team for their very first time are Cheryl Anderson who will spend her 30th birthday all the way across the world and Disa Hatfield, bringing the family name back to the IPF platform.
At the time you read this, the preliminary nominations will be turned in by the various countries and we will anxiously wait for the finals to appear in May. The US Team notoriously moves up in the rankings when all is said and done and the chalk settles. Your support and encouragement is appreciated as we prepare to face the best in the world on the IPF platform.
The following link is individual bios for each of the team members along with our coaching staff.
